As a congregation, First Lutheran Church understands that our church property is on loan to us from God to use in furthering his kingdom and sharing His love. We hope you see it that way too and we hope you will keep the following in mind as you use the First Lutheran Church building:

  • Requests to use the building need to be scheduled through the parish office at First Lutheran. We will try to honor arrangements you have made to use the building but on rare occasions, a church event (for instance, a funeral) may have to take precedence over your plans.
  • In that event, we will offer you alternative space (such as the basement) if at all possible and give you as much notice as possible.
  • Please designate a contact person for your activity in case we should need to get a hold of you.
  • Please keep in mind that we do not have a full-time custodian.
  • Our custodian is paid only to clean up after regularly scheduled church activities. Please leave the building in the condition that you found it.
  • A responsible adult needs to be present, supervising and responsible at all times.
  • First Lutheran is an alcohol-free and tobacco-free building and grounds.
  • Please avoid the use of red beverages as they stain the carpet.
  • Please provide your own paper products.
  • If the sound system or heating/cooling system need adjusting, please ask one of the pastors for help.
  • Our musical instruments (keyboards, organ) should only be used if a part of your event (example: a solo at a bridal shower). If you plan to use them, please speak to the pastors or our choir director, Lona Batie.
  • Donations for cost of heat/air, electricity, etc. when the building is used by non-members are welcome but not required except in the case of weddings. (See wedding guidelines.) Charitable groups and community-enhancing groups are not expected to make donations towards usage (example: Scouts, 4-H, Relay for Life, etc.)

Before leaving please see to the following:

  • Return tables and chairs to the arrangement they were found in.
  • Wipe off tables, chairs, countertops, and sinks.
  • Vacuum. (The vacuum is found in the janitor’s closet behind the double doors in the fellowship hall.)
  • Sweep the kitchen floor if you used the kitchen.
  • Mop the kitchen floor if needed. (The mop and bucket are found in the janitor’s closet across from the restrooms in the fellowship hall.)
  • If the trash containers are full or nearly full or if they have wet garbage in them, please empty the trash and take it to the dumpster in the alley outside the library door. Use the new bag at the bottom of the trash containers to re-line the trash containers.
  • Take your leftover food with you. Please check the refrigerators.
  • Wash all coffee pots and makers and return to storage. (White coffee servers should be rinsed only and not immersed in water.)
  • Wash dishes and utensils and return them to storage.
  • Launder any towels and dishcloths and return to the church within a few days.
  • Check the restrooms to see that the toilets are flushed, no water is running, and paper towels, etc. are in the trash.
  • Turn off the lights. (Please check to see lights are out in the restrooms.)
  • Lock the building as you leave or make arrangements to have the building locked.

We hope you will enjoy our church facilities as much as we do! If you have any questions or problems, please call the Church office at 605-448-5370 or complete our contact form.
