Purpose Statement:

As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

About Women of First:

All adult women members of First Lutheran Church are automatically members of Women of First (WOF). The WOF does not hold regular meetings and is led by an executive committee.

The coordinator is Kim Peters. Lorene Bender is the treasurer, and the remaining committee members are Angela Hawkinson, Anita Patterson and Sandra Peters. Betty Beck is the group’s historian. Some of the committees within the WOF are: altar Flowers, baptismal towels, kitchen, library, quilting, serving groups and the take-out lunch (formerly the bazaar).

The serving groups are called upon throughout the year to serve different events in the church, primarily funerals. The WOF members are divided into six serving groups. Candie Beck is the serving group supervisor.

The annual fall take-out lunch is the main fundraiser for the WOF. The fundraising proceeds make it possible for the WOF to contribute financially to several non-profit organizations in the region.

Each year, the WOF recognize the congregation’s confirmands and high school graduates during coffee hour, in October and May, respectively. The confirmands are given a small gift from the women, and the graduates each receive a quilt made by the quilting committee.

About Pleasant Valley Women:

All women members of Pleasant Valley Church are invited to participate in PVW, which meets at the church every other month. All women are also welcome to join the Pleasant Valley Charities Circle. Please contact Julie Hagen (448-5377) if you are interested in more information.
